Standards

Editorial Policy

How material on this site is researched, written, sourced, corrected and funded.

This page sets out the standards that govern everything published on 212steakhousenyc.com. It is written to be checkable: if the site departs from anything below, that is a fault and we would like to know about it.

Independence

This publication is independent of every business, association and publication it writes about. We accept no payment, hospitality, product, or consideration of any kind from restaurants, suppliers, importers, certification bodies or public relations representatives in exchange for coverage. Nothing on this site is a sponsored post, a paid placement or an affiliate recommendation.

Sourcing

Archival material

Menu listings, photographs and press indexes originate in material published by the restaurant during its operation. It is reproduced here as a documentary record, reorganised, and accompanied by our own commentary, which is clearly distinguishable from the underlying material.

Third-party reporting

Where the site refers to reporting by other publications, we summarise that reporting in our own words and name the outlet and year so readers can find the original. We do not reproduce articles, and we do not present another publication's work as our own.

Explanatory writing

Guides covering certification, grading, breeds, ageing and butchery are original work drawing on established and widely documented subject knowledge. Where a claim is contested or uncertain, the text says so rather than smoothing it over.

Accuracy and the limits of an archive

An archive describes a moment that has passed. Restaurant details are among the most volatile information published anywhere: hours change seasonally, menus change weekly, and ownership, premises and trading status can change without notice.

Accordingly:

  • This site does not publish or imply current operating status.
  • Historical details are labelled as reference material wherever they appear.
  • Readers are directed, repeatedly and deliberately, to verify anything time-sensitive directly with the venue before acting on it.
  • Prices are omitted entirely.

Voice

This site never writes in the first person on behalf of any business. There is no “our restaurant”, “our kitchen” or “book with us” anywhere on it, because that would misrepresent who is speaking. The publication writes about the restaurant, never as it.

Corrections

Errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed. Minor factual fixes are made silently; substantive changes that alter the meaning of a passage are noted on the page. To report an error, email editor@212steakhousenyc.com with the page URL and the correct information.

Copyright and rights

Original text on this site is the property of its publisher. Photographic and menu material reproduced from the restaurant's published output remains the property of its respective rights holders and is reproduced here for documentary and reference purposes. If you hold rights in any material here and wish it removed or credited differently, write to us and it will be handled promptly. See the terms of use.

Advertising

The site is funded by third-party display advertising. Advertisements are clearly distinguishable from editorial content, are never written or influenced by this publication, and carry no editorial endorsement. Advertisers have no access to, or influence over, what is published. Details of the data practices associated with advertising are in the privacy policy.

Artificial intelligence

Editorial judgement, sourcing decisions and factual verification on this site are performed by people. Where drafting tools are used to assist with structure or phrasing, the resulting text is reviewed and verified before publication, and responsibility for accuracy rests with the publisher.
